Global students are excited by the power of AI - but three quarters fear it will impact their jobs

Exclusive research from Yugo uncovers how students are preparing for an AI-driven future.

14 May 2025 - Yugo, the first global student housing brand and operator, has today released a groundbreaking new report exploring students’ attitudes toward artificial intelligence.

Surveying over 7,000 students across nine countries, the findings reveal a generation both energized and apprehensive about AI’s growing presence in their lives.

Nearly half (48%) of students globally express optimism about AI, highlighting its potential as a transformative force. Key perceived benefits include enhanced productivity (62%), better work-life balance (56%), and broader access to education (49%) – with many students seeing the technology’s impact reaching far beyond academia into healthcare, climate action, and mental health support.

However, the study also reveals widespread unease. One in five students (20%) say they feel worried about AI, with 59% believing it could lead to a decline in human intelligence.

Concerns about job displacement are prevalent, with 76% fearing AI will negatively impact future employment. A striking 25% even believe AI companions could eventually replace romantic partners.

Despite these concerns, students are actively using AI tools to support their studies and improve their CVs.

Yugo rolls out AI training for students

Yugo is launching The Power of AI – a series of workshops and training sessions delivered through its YuPro pillar, part of the wider Live Your Best Life (LYBL) program.

These sessions aim to equip students with the tools to use AI ethically, creatively, and confidently, helping them prepare for a future where AI will be integral to both work and life.

Joe Persechino, Chief Operating Officer at Yugo, said: “At Yugo, we’re always striving to understand the mindset and aspirations of students living in our spaces. This research is groundbreaking in both its size and geographical reach and paints a compelling picture.

“It reveals much excitement about the potential of AI, particularly in education, healthcare and technology. But there is clear concern about its threat to students’ job prospects.

“As a globally leading brand and operator of student accommodation in the UK and the largest provider in Europe, our priority is to support students with the skills to flourish in their future careers and life beyond university. That’s why our Live Your Best Life (LYBL) program provides workshops and training to enhance students’ lives both during and after university.”
